Sometimes you have to make the trade off between fertility and your health. If you have 9 children already, it may be time to take care of yourself so that you don't leave them without a mother---which is what WILL happen, eventually, if you don't care for your PCOS.

Do you have to take BCPs? No, and if you absolutely won't do it, try another GYN---around here, at least, there are ones run by Catholic charities that don't prescribe BCPs. But honestly, would you not take, oh.....cancer medicine, if you knew it would make you infertile for a little while? You're not supposed to get pregnant on MANY medicines, as there can be birth defect issues. Would you avoid ALL of these medicines?

I'm pretty sure the Lord will forgive you for trying to make sure you can be at your children's weddings. He likes families (and it sounds like you do, too!), but He sure doesn't want you to die to have them.

Of course the game is rigged. Don't let that stop you--if you don't play, you can't win.

Why can't she just give you the metformin? You do not need bcp for metformin, it doesn't cause birth defects even if you do get pg. Many women get regulated and lose weight on metformin (or IR drugs) alone. I would seek another OB if you really, truly do not want bcp (I didn't b/c I hate the hormones, but I had an IUD for 8 years).

Now if you're going to start on spironolactone, flutamide, or antiandrogen drugs, you do have to be on bcp or something, they cause birth defects--and mess up AF anyway.

Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.

I would say that no you dont have to be on the bcp at all if you dont want to,but if thecysts are bothering you, like causing pain for instance, than you should take them. God doesnt want you to be in pain. and also God doesnt want you to have deformed children either. You said that you would be taking other pills, you need to ask you dr. if the other pills would cause problems if you did get pregnant.
