I have been on Yaz for 3 mos (on my 3rd pack) after discontinuing Desogen.
How I got here:
I loved desogen and was on it since the mid 90's. My pharmacist said they no longer manufacture it and gave me a generic version called Apri. IT WAS HORRIBLE!! Severe mood swings/depresion, the worst AF I ever had (3 tampon changes in 1 hour!!) and my DH was ready to divorce me! After reading so much about how YAZ is supposed to PCOS friendly, with my doctor's approval/recommendation I switched to YAZ.
I thought this pill was supposed to reduce water retention but it is much worse than with Desogen! In my second week of taking the active pills each month, I experienced a bloated stomach (I look PG!) and my breasts swell so much I need a bigger bra size--I'm bustin' out!! I feel so fat and gross. My hair is also falling out and I've had previous probs with hair loss. Did I give it enough of a shot after 3 mos? I really don't want to switch again but I don't see another way out. Is Yasmin any different? Any advice for a great pill?
Thx
Barbara

i am currently on YAZ now. it has made me gain weight too. my breasts have swollen too. they are almost always sore and im extremely moody also. my fiance sometimes wants to get rid of me, lol. but he never does. have you talked to your doctor about this? they can give you something different that will work for you.
Yaz and Yasmin are supposed to have actually a diuretic (non-water retaining) effect because of the drospirenone in them, but I guess they work differently in different women. I am on Ocella (generic yasmin) and love it because I have actually lost a few pounds of water weight.
I'd like to bump this post up because I have only been on Yaz for a week, and my appetite is out of control! Do you guys think that my body could adjust to it if I stick with it longer, or should I switch pills next month? Also, could it be that the pill in general just makes me gain weight and I shouldn't take it, or is it likely that I'll find a birth control out there that doesn't make me gain weight?

I have been on YAZ for about 3 weeks and no weight gain yet (fingers crossed)! But my boobs are unbelievably sore and are growing like crazy which I DO NOT want. I am already a 36D without BC. Do you guys think that they may go back to normal after a few months on YAZ, once my body adjusts. I already have problems shopping for a bra that fits right!
Hello ladies! I was on Yaz as well for four months...I started as a 36DD and they grew at LEAST another cup size. I exercise 4 times a week and live a pretty healthy lifestyle and gained only about 5 lbs while on Yaz. But I couldn't get over my breast growing and they hurt so badly, I couldn't stand for DH to touch them this was after the 4th month! Above all, I was so moody and evil my marriage was at risk while on Yaz. Soooo I started Kariva (Mircette generic) this week and we will see what happens...sigh.
I was on Yaz for 2 years and I definitely gained weight on it. I also had terrible mood swings and cramps (I had never experienced cramps before). The only reason I stayed on it for so long was that my Dr said that it could take a while to get used to a BCP and my body might not be used to it yet (even after an entire year). The only good thing I can say about Yaz is that my face was completely clear for those entire two years--not one breakout. After Yaz I switched to Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo. I got on a lot better on that BCP--I didn't gain weight after starting it (though I did later on, but I think that is more of college living). It didn't keep my face nearly as clear as Yaz though, but I no longer had insane mood swings.
