Thought I would update you on my visit to the doc - I got metformin!someone who listened to me, have to take 1500mg per day, I felt like it was christmas lol! hes referring me back to endo and I have to go back in one month to see him
Way to go bobbiej...I am glad that the doc finually listened...I too am on 2000 mg. Yes, I had side effects when I first started on met. I started out on 1500 mg a day. I took one with each meal and that helped some. I got real nausiated and felt like I had morning sickness all day long. That lasted for about a week, then I was fine. But the following week I went back to see the endo and he raised it again. I again was nausiated for a few weeks and burped a lot. That was at the end of August. I would also nearly throw up when I knew it was time to take it. I think the thought of getting sick at my stomach is what caused that. Now that I am use to it, it doesn't really bother me. If your met smells bad in the original bottle, place it in a daily dispenser and that helps with the dead fishy smell. I hope it works for you. I haven't noticed any change in weight, but I have noticed that I am very hormonal and I haven't been like that in a long time. I have only been on it since the beginning of August. I hope I start seeing improvements soon. Oh, the hair on my chin is starting to turn light colored. They are still stiff, but some of them are lighter in color...I hope all of it turns light...Anyway, good luck and I hope it works well for you...

Congragulations. I remember being so excited when I first got on Met. Go check out the Metformin board, and read about the side effects and how to help eliminate them......Lot's of good information. Trust me. Hang in there, the side effects are only temporary.

Thank you for so much for your advice Its only day 3 but I'm fine so far, I have to take one (500mg) a day for two weeks, then 2 for another two weeks then on to the three to become tolerant to it. I'll go check out metformin board now, thank you again - it means a lot to be able to talk to people in the same boat!

another tip for those with upset tummies from met is to slowly build up your dosage like half a tablet then one tablet etc you may want to discuss w your doc before doing this and also take it at night before you go to bed i found by doing this all the upset stomach action happened while i was sleeping hth edited to say opps just realised you are already doing the build it up thing bobbiej
