Hi, my name is Jen. I'm 26 and married with 3 beautiful fur babies (2 dogs, 1 cat).
I started having problems when I was 19. All my doctor would do was put me on birth control to "regulate" my periods. lol, yeah right. I still had crazy 3+ month long periods on the pill. Then when I went back to the doc because of them she said "The pill work great. You no pregnant." Uhhhh....that's not why I was on the pill!!!!
About two years ago my husband and I started trying to conceive. Each month I would test for ovulation and came up with nothing. I of course ran out and bought all kinds of fertility and ttc books and kept stopping at the pcos section. It described everything I had been dealing with. Excess hair, crazy periods, gaining 60 lbs in one year, blah, blah, blah. So, I went back to my doc and she said....you are normal. There is nothing wrong with you.
I changed docs 4 times that year and still nobody took me seriously.
Fast forward to 2006. We moved to Ohio and I went to my first appt. with my new ob/gyn. I wasn't even in halfway through describing all my issues when the doc said "Don't worry. I can help you. We'll do bloodwork to confirm what I suspect is wrong." I almost started bawling. For the first time in YEARS a doctor was finally going to help me. He listened! I couldn't believe it.
I did the blood work the next day and an ultrasound the following week. I was diagnosed with PCOS and IR on Oct. 3. I am not on any meds yet. I have an Endo. appt. on Jan 16th and can't wait to get started with some sort of treatment. My doc mentioned Met (always) and birth control pills (when we're not trying to conceive).
I just thought I'd say hello and share my story.
I'm so happy I found this site.
Welcome to soul cysters Jen. I am so happy that you found a doctor that you can finally trust and rely on. I have been on Metformin for a month now, I feel like a person being on it. If that does not work, by itself, there is Clomid, I have not been on it myself, but many women on here have gotten pregnant by taking it. Good luck with your appt in Jan.
Thanks! I've done lots of research through the years. Knowing in my heart that what I had was PCOS no matter what the docs told me. lol. I knew it wasn't normal to have a period (a very heavy or just spotty one) for 3+ months then to go for 2 - 4 months without one.
I'm pretty positive about it. It really hit home when the doc confirmed I wasn't ovulating but...like you said. There are meds to help with that. He's got high hopes for me so that makes me feel better.
Also, just reading through all the posts. I can SO identify with everyone here. All the junk we've been through. I can finally say "has this every happened to you" and not have someone look at me like I was an alien or something. lol.
Yeah I know how much it helps having someone you can talk to that relates to this problem or that problem. I had been having problems for eleven years before I got my diagnoses. I was so emotional after I finally knew I was not crazy and that this horrible stuff was happening to me. I was looking for PCOS information and ran across soul cysters last month, about 2 weeks after I was diagnosed. I am not emotional anymore; if I need to talk, I come here. Everyone is sweet and very helpful. I just love this group; you can talk to them about anything and not be judged. It is like have thousands of sisters next door, which is wonderful.

Hi there and Welcome to SC!
I am so glad you joined us here.
These ladies are terrific and you can't beat the info and support that this site provides.
All the best with everything,Jen!
I'm so sorry for all that you had to go through to get your diagnosis, but it's wonderful that you have a good doc now. When I saw my current doc (he's the one who diagnosed my PCOS) the first time he also said "I'm going to help you", I was so relieved I wanted to laugh and cry at the same time. Finally, someone was going to help me!
Best wishes for your appointment. Sounds like you have a good battle plan.
Hugs to you
Jenny
