Yesterday I meant to make this post here, but the site was acting all flaky and I couldn't get in to post it... so it is a day late being posted, but it was written last night... August 17th... here it is:
Today... and One Month Ago today...
I am feeling very reflective and sentimental tonight as it was precisely one month ago at shortly after 7:30 pm that we arrived at JFK and let our little son's feet touch the ground thus making him an American! It is hard to believe that he has been home one whole month today...
Also... (as if to confirm his status) today was the day that his Certificate of Citizenship arrived in the mail! I was shocked when I opened the mailbox this morning and found it precisely 30 days later -- as promised. The government delivered the document that gives evidence that our son is home forever right on time!
Our adoption journey was not as straight forward as it should have been and we hit a pretty huge and very unexpected bump in the road at the end of April. We went through 3 excruciating months of uncertainity, but through amazing dedication and hard work by all involved, everything was solved and our Alex had his Gotcha Day on July 14th in St. Petersburg. He was 9 months old at the time of adoption and he is beyond amazing... I stare at him in wonder each and every day and give thanks that he is here.
I want to thank everyone who reached out to me during our difficulties. I did not feel that I should post a whole lot during that time for a variety of complex reasons, but it was nice to know that others were thinking of us. I could not have had the strength to go on day after day without the kind words of my cysters to see me through...
Alex was well worth every minute of the wait... and after having been home only a month he is a happy, outgoing little guy with a sunny disposition and a sense of humour. He is in the 50th percentile overall for his age in terms of height and weight, his bloodwork came back perfect and he is testing above level in terms of gross motor development!
He has learned how to do bye-bye, raises his arms for "so big", says "uh-oh" when he drops something, gives me kisses when I ask for them, plays pat-a-cake, and understands words like no, up, ba-ba (for bottle) and nummies (for food) and nigh-nigh (for bedtime). He is bright and handsome and I am the proudest Mommy in the world!
Thanks for letting me brag and share my joy....

Isn't it unbelievable after that long, excrutiating wait how quickly time passes? And it's almost as if you actually forget the pain you went through during that time--at least that's how I feel!
I am so happy for you all. I'm thrilled that Alex has his forever family and is home safe in your arms. This is just wonderful!!
Oh--and isn't it great to look at the Certificate of Citizenship?!! I think it's so cool! We just got Em's SSN the other day and are applying for her US Passport soon too. Everything is so exciting!!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!

congratulations again. I too remember the one month mark- and now- joel's been home 8 months already. and at 21 months is catching up quickly but still is behind in speech development (either that or he's just stubborn- which i'm leaning toward the latter) but he's my stubborn boy my toddler- that's entering the "terrible two's" early!
Love it- we still haven't done his readoption- but mark has promised to turn the paperwork within the week- we could've done it a lot sooner- like MONTHS- but time has slipped away.
(and since we visited him before we don't HAVE to do the readoption, but we're going to anyway)...
I'm so happy for you. I so know how you feel and it's an awesome thing to be able to look at that baby sleeping and know there's no more worries because he's home.
Zach's been home 1 year and 3 months now, and I can't imagine what it used to be like without him.
Zach seems to be a little behind in speech too than most other kids, but I know he'll talk when he's ready. He already says some words, and will say a sentence or two now and then, but if you ask him to repeat it, he refuses. I guess he's just one of those stubborn boys just like Jen-duck said.
Keep us posted on Alex's progress.
