Hi,

I just wanted to know for those who are hypothyroid and have PCOS if you are on birth control pills has your hypothyroidism gotten worse. I've been told that they can further suppress your thyroid and with trying to lose this last 20 lbs i'm wondering if it's making it much harder. If you have a success or for that matter an unsuccessful experience with BCP's and trying to lose weight please let me know. Thanks

Have been prescribed Diane-35 and Alesse and couldn't tolerate them. Prescribed Metformin 03/24/03-hair loss and hair growth stopped, almost regular menstration!!

Estrogen binds to thyroid hormone. If you are on bcps you DO NEED additional thyroid hormone. Get your levels checked by a competent doctor who KNOWS THIS and who listens to your symptoms, does not go on outdated lab ranges!! Keep copies of all your labs, your TSH should be between 0.5-1.5!

Hi. I'm hypo w/PCOS and ave been on BCP for practically all my life except for the time I was TTC my daughter. After she was born, I went back on BCP because my OB said it would help surpress PCOS symptoms.

I personally haven't noticed my thyroid going up. It has increased from .05 when first diagnosed to .088. I was in .125 while pregnant! Whew the things your body goes through during that time!

Anyway, hope I've helped a little.

I know when I was on bcps my thyroid was really stressed, but it somehow managed to compensate by overproducing. My TSH actually went DOWN while on bcp... I was hyper!! (without meds at all) But then it's when I went off them that it took a nosedive and I've needed thyroid pills ever since.

I was on Diane 35 and that was awful then tried Alesse and that was bad too so now i'm back to nothing, have been on epo and wild yam extract for 2 weeks again.

And thanks Shena. Some doctors fail to mention important things like what will happen with the thyroid when on BCPs
