that you have facial hair? I have a 4 year old and I always make sure I do it when he's not around. I don't want him blurting out that I do that. I always wonder if I'll ever tell him. I don't want him to think Mommy's a freak-show.

My little SIL have seen me shave my chin hair with the electric razor. I never really thought much about it until one day they took their dads electric razor and were pretending to shave. My FIL told them "Girls don't shave thier faces." And they promptly argued with him that Laura does!
I plan on telling my daughter, but I'm not sure at what age. Probably when she's a little older than 4 I, too, wouldn't want her blurting it out so I want to wait until she's old enough to know better. I would tell about the hair along with all my other PCOS symptoms. I want her to know what the symptoms are in case she gets them too. . .PCOS seems to afflict most of women in my family so it stands a good chance she'll have it too I just don't want her to go through what many of us here have gone though and I'm willing to do anything if it means she can get diagnosed and treated early.
Anyway, if I had a boy instead I'm not sure what I'd do. I'd probably tell him too, but older than I would with my daughter. That's mainly so he can be understanding should he meet a woman with facial hair too.

My eldest DD knows that I do, she is 10. There are days I don't shave if I am just home so she noticed and asked about it. I have talked to her a little about what is going on with me, so far she isn't showing any signs of having it, but I would definately keep talking to her and to all of my other children about it so if they ever see someone with it or other "problems" they have that understanding. People can be cruel and it sometimes just has to do with not knowing the why of it.

Well, when dealing with my niece, who is nine, when she has noticed her Moms' facial hair, I've always said, "You know, it's normal for a lot of women, when they are older, to have some hairs on their faces. Some ladies have more than others. You can get rid of them, if they bother you." She pretty much accepts that so to her, facial hair on a woman now doesn't phase her a bit. (And girls, once you're in your 40s and beyond, it's everybody. Not just PCOSers. Don't let anyone tell you different, hee hee.)
On the other hand, I don't discuss MY choices SPECIFICALLY with her about facial hair, or what I do about it. LIttle kids simply have NO sense of discretion. They can't help it. My niece told her school principal I thought he was "hot" 'cause she overheard me saying he was a handsome man. And she sure doesn't know about my hairpiece, because she would broadcast that all over town. Children learning about treating people's physical bodies with respect is something that comes slowly, I think. I don't want to be a child's guinea pig in this regard. I think when kids are older, and they start to be more sensitive about their own sense of physical privacy, it might be easier to tell them in confidence.
But then, I don't really know for sure. Any other ideas?

this is an interesting question. I dont know what I will tell my kids.. I pluck in front of them but try not to be obsessive in front of them. I dont shave in front of them, I suppose that fear of them blurting it out has made me very discreet. I keep saying to myself I wont even pluck in front of them, but I have no self discipline so when I need to I just do it. I will definately tell them all about PCOS in the future, theres a fair chance they'll have it so of course I will be so vigilant.

DS already outed me! He is 8 and climbed in my lap while we were at MIL and blurted - 'You need to shave!' This was while he was rubbing his hand along my jaw line.

My mum plucks in front of me and my 2 brothers. She has not been DX'd PCOS, but she is overweigh. She gets a few like lumpy spots, and a dark hair in the middle of each one...so she plucks them. Also she plucks her eyebrows. When she was younger, she plucked all her eyebrows out.......now she has to do them or the look bushy!
