Unhappy Your experiences with Nioxin

Hi!

I'm suffering from hairloss for almost one year now. I think I lost half of it *sob*. I take Metformin and Diane35. Nothing really helps - maybe the hairloss is also caused by severe weight loss...

I tried to manage to order some Nioxin in Germany - and would now like to share your experiences. I bought Kit No. 4.

Does it help? And how soon?

I am a hairdresser. You have to give it a few months before you will see a difference. It is all about patience. I always tell my clients that because it is not an overnite fix. Your hair didn't fall out in a couple weeks! Anyway, I think you should start noticing less hair in the drain at least by 3 months of use. After that, it *can* start helping with regrowth. Don't quote me on that though!

Thanks for your reply, sassy.

I know it takes a lot of patience. I think my hair does already regrow, as I can see a lot of those fine little baby hairs on my scalp - however, the hair loss itself does not stop.

Is it necessary to wash my hair every day with Nioxin? I try to wash only twice a week as I lose most of the hair on the "washing days".

I will give it a try for at least half a year, though the products are VERY expensive in Germany. But I would do almost anything to gain my hair back.

I just was wondering if its better to wash your hair with it everyday or should you try to go ever other?

I have clients that wash their hair every day with it and have no problems. I think if you do every other day, it would be ok. I am not the expert on it, but I could ask the girls at the salon that I used to work at....they are the ones who are smart about Nioxin!

I have been using Nioxin for a few years, and like you, take Diane 35 and recently Metormin. I feel the combination of Diane 35 and Nioxin helped my have some regrowth of my hair. My hair was horrible and I was so embarrassed that I wouldn't even wear it down because you could see so much scalp. It took about a year before I really noticed a significant change in the fullness of my hair. But I did also notice less was falling out. I am realistic though. My hair will never be as nice as it was before. I also find keeping it shoulder length or a bit longer helps too because it doesn't look so thin. Boy do I miss my long curly hair! I should have appreciated that great hair when I had it instead of complaining about it.

Good luck!

My Dh has been using it for years and has definitely lost a lot less hair than his brotheer. I think it works!

Yesterday, I used it for the first time. I like the minty smell. However, it made my hair a bit too soft. Might be from the dimethicone which is unfortunately in all three products of the starter kit. I will keep on using my caffeine scalp tonic in the evening and use the nioxin scalp stuff in the morning.

The caffeine shampoo I normally use makes my hair "cleaner" and gives more volume.

I will wash my hair every other day now. We'll see if it can convince me to rebuy it when I'm finished with the starter kit....

I asked my hairdresser about how often is best to wash your hair. She said this:
If your is oily: wash it daily- The oils contain the the hormones that cause the hairloss. (the shampoo is safe to use everyday)

If your hair is normal- every other day would be fine

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, Alex.

I used Nioxin yesterday evening for the 2nd time and am still very much disappointed. It leaves my hair far too soft without strength or volume. I am not sure whether I should stick to it, as the visible results with my regular shampoo are much better.

And even worse: Both times I used Nioxin, the hair loss after washing was extreme. Might be a coincidence, however not encouraging.

After all: What a waste of money...

How much of the tonic stuff are you using? You aren't supposed to spray it on your HAIR...you are supposed to put it on your scalp so it will sort of run down your scalp....then you rub it into your scalp. Pull the front of your hair up, put 4 squirts on that part, then rub it in. Then do the same with the back part of your head. I don't know if it will help, but try it!

I also ordered the Nioxin from Germany. The guy told me on the phone
I should not be afraid at the beginning when Im loosing more hair than I the other days. Its like a shedding.
The only problem is, I am loosing already to much hair. I dont know if I should start with Nioxin. He said, the hair that I will lose during the beginning with Nioxin would fall anyway out. So I dont have to worry and the will grow back.

Does Nioxin hold minoxidil as an ingredient like Rogaine does?
Or do they have other ingredients?

No, Nioxin does NOT contain minoxodil. It does not claim to regrow hair - it says it helps DHT on the scalp to provide a healthy scalp environment and encourage hair growth.
I just started it and LOVE it. It makes my hair feel incredibly clean and full - might just be my perception but that's half the battle as far as I'm concerned.
