Default is your hair dry and falls out

If you are losing your hair should it always be dry and coarse? I am losing my hair and it is very dry and brittle i sometimes think i am hypothryoid but that never shows up... when losing your hair does it become dry and brittle i have tried every conditioner there is? any ideas or is that what happens too?

I suggest salivia testing for the a thyroid problem? It is a new testing procedure and some doctors do not utilize it.

My hypothyroidism did not show up on regular blood test, but was evident in the salivia test. I had all the classic symptons including the dry, brittle hair that falls out easily. I feel much better since it is beign treated by Cytomel.

Might be a long shot because you've probably already tried the nutritional approach but I found an amazing difference in the softness of my skin and hair when I started taking Evening Primrose Oil. I still have some hair that is coarser though, the new hair growth! It seems more wiry than the rest and sticks off the top of my head! but hey, it's new hair growth so I'll take it.

Nettle tea used as a final rinse for your hair can help too. Silica is also supposed to be a good supplement to take for your hair and Brewer's Yeast if you are okay with yeast.

I also take kelp which certainly makes my hair grow faster! This is a little controversial though; because some websites I have visited advice trying kelp if you have a slight thyroid problem and some advise not to take it if you have a thyroid problem.

I suppose again, it is a case of reading the arguments for and against and making your own mind up!

Talking parksjp1!!! Who's your doc???!!

Parksjp1!! I'm in Atlanta, too, and can't get anyone to listen to my medical woes! I have the dry hairloss (used to be thick and healthy and splitend-resistant, now it just looks like straw), shedding eyebrow, stomach pooch, fatigue, brain fog, memory problems, acne, it just goes on and on. All my bloodwork always comes back normal. Ha, ha, what do they know. This isn't normal for a 27 year old. I wanted to know, who is your doc? Or you can feel free to email me gt7941a@yahoo.com but I would like a good doctor to listen to me so bad!!! One doc even did the foot-reaction test thing and suspected hypothyroid until the test came back "normal." My TSH has almost doubled in 2 years since all this started--it was consistent to two decimal places my whole life before that. Something is not right!

Thumbs up

At the Women's Wellness Group at 770-981-4666. I heard Dr. Taylor on 97.5 morning show and knew that I had to see him.

Default Saliva Test

The company my doctor utilizes is Diagnos-Tech in Washington state. Some test are available over the internet however I would find a doctor who has repeatedly used a specific testing facility and has worked with saliva test results before self diagnosing. It may be covered by medical insurance depending upon your insurance company.
