Default Your Pcos?

Hello,
I was just wondering what kind of signs and symptoms does your pcos give you?

My pcos is abit weird! I have the excess weight, excess hair, spots, fertility problems (anovulation), insulin resistance, high LH (about 26!) and other hormonal problems. The one thing I don't have is the cysts! My ovaries are CLEAR! This kind of pokes a hole in the argument that its the cysts that cause all the problems!

So what kind of weird and (not) wonderful shape does your pcos come in?!

i have insulin resistance, obesity, an apple belly, my hair falls out, i have some facial hair (upper lip, chin...not too extreme), a few skin tags, fertility problems (but i was able to conceive), no periods w/o some drug to induce them, what's that brown discoloration called? i have that but not extreme, low self-esteem due to weight issues, and i think that's it. i don't know if i have cysts on my ovaries or not, no ultrasound was ever done.

that's a LOT of baggage!!

Hi. I have irregluar periods - always have. This became an issue when I started TTC. It was then noticed I had polycystic ovaries and eventually this led to a PCOS diagnosis. I have an imbalanced FSH:LH ratio which is a PCOS classic symptom. I also have extra weight I shouldn't have that once on goes on all the quicker and is difficult to get rid of once I have it - another PCOS classic. My consultant said it was more than likely, especially given I am overweigth and there is diabetes in the family as well as my PCOS, that I am insulin resistant but I didn't tick it cos I have not been tested for it.

Can I make a suggestion? I clicked other for the polycystic ovaries. Perhaps they should be a separate category cos it is very common , though, like you Sharky not everyone with PCOS has them (and not everyone with polycystic ovaries has PCOS). Just a thought...

hi,

I've got everything apart from insulin resistance - I got tested but they cocked it up (some idiot put the blood in the wrong phial and they never tested me again!) and now I don't know if I am or not now.

I also have skin tags, mood swings/depression and high blood pressure, boils (outside AND inside! LOL) - thats the symptoms that I am aware of. I don't know about the whole cyst situation - last time they told me that my ovaries were not all that big but they are covered in the little buggers, however, I am informed that things can change.

phew

Excess Weight, Excess Hair, Fertility Problems, Hormonal Imbalances & Self-Conciousness

I also have multiple ovarian cysts and dark skin patches on my torso. Lovely!!!

Fee - when I was getting my Rh- factor checked they put my blood in the wrong phial - all I got told was that it needed redone, I was totally panicked as the were looking for antibodies which could be dangerous if found. They tested me again and didn't send the results back to my gp.

Post PCOS Poll

I have excess weight I look like I have a big truck tyre round my middle! I also have a major hormonal imbalance which causes very strong mood swings and sometimes I can feel very emotional/tearful, irregular periods with brown discharge (sorry for the detail)/bleeding in between sometimes. A lot of pain when ovulating. Oily/greasy skin and spots every time I get my period. I also DONT have CYSTS on my ovaries! and this makes me think the problems are hormonal. Don't know about the insulin resistence. Thats it I think!! Oh yeah, I have one boob bigger than the other, but that's probably nothing to do with the PCOS, i know it is a fairly common occurence in women.

So do I, I even asked my doc if I could get it sorted and she agreed that the difference was substantial enough to refer me to Canniesburn hosp, however, when I got there they told me that they don't do cosmetic jobs on the NHS anymore unless you can prove that you are traumatised by your problem and that would mean going to psychologists and stuff. since then I have just got on with things, my bf loves my rack and I am lucky enough not to have a big bust anyway (c cup) so they don't really sag or anything.

There are worse things that life throws at us isn't there?, I would't mind a really nice wee perky pair though!

I just have excess hair and a weight problem. I don't know if I have fertility problems, never TTC, but the doc says probably not as my periods are regular. Also have wonky hormones, when I asked what my LH:FSH was I was told that I didn't have any LH at all!!!! Sounds weird to me!

Aren't we all fantastic women for having all of these stupid, bloody problems but soldiering on anyway. We all deserve endless back rubs and big boxes of Thorntons for it!

Anyway, my symptoms are being overweight with most of it on my tummy and thighs (my record is gaining 2.5 stones in under 6 months), facial hair under my chin and sides of my face, but interestingly not on my top lip at all, skin tags on neck and arms, the acanthosis (?) skin discolouration thing on neck, under arms, knees, groin, and under my boobs, huge painful boils on the thighs (the men REALLY love that), body hair (top of arms, back, tummy, tops of thighs, back of thighs, big toes, excessive on lower arms), completely anovulary but with the pill I do have a slight bleed but it's just brown gunk (Sorry TMI but I'm relieved to hear that it's not just me), FSH:LH ratio is completely out of wack, head hair that is slightly thinner than it should be.

Pyschologically when I'm down, I'm an overweight, hairy, slightly balding, boil covered barren woman. Doesn't make me feel very attractive at all. One of the worse things for me is that there is no cure and that I'm going to have this for the rest of my life. In fact I believe the early studies show that the symptoms get worse after menopause.

I've never had my ovaries scanned so I don't know about whether they have cysts on them or not. I was diagnosed through blood tests and a physical examination. I don't know about IR as they haven't tested me for it. I am very hypoglycaemic without my metformin though so I suppose I am. In fact I'm starting to get shaky even with my metformin so need to ask to increase the dose.

One thing that really helps is having an amazing partner.

Oh BTW, my left boob must be half a cup size or more larger than my right one - why don't M&S sell mix and match cup size bras!!! LOL

Really like the description of yourself Julie!

I am deliciously child free myself! Love cats, have a grumpy git for a bf and will probably end up a spinster living in a house full of cat poo! Or should I say a fat hairy pill popping spinster!

Compared to some here, I am very lucky.

I have regular AF's, my hormone levels are normal and I don't have spots, excess hair or IR.

I have infertility, excess weight and I have cysts on my ovaries. That's it.

Why thank you my dear, how kind of you to say so! I think we need some cheering up don't you? Being fat and hairy doesn't do much for a girl's confidence although it may be a distinct advantage in certain parts of the world!!! Who's for moving to Romania??!!! I hear they like a well groomed moustache on a lady there!
