Hey everyone!

I just joined this forum yesterday, after being diagnosed with PCOS at the end of February this year (I wrote a bit about my history in the newbie section).

Just wondering what everyones take is on the correct diet to have when your managing PCOS? I've been going Low GI which is pretty easy to sustain and still includes healthy wholegrain carbs. It even says milo and milk is ok for a snack, which I was surprised about, given the sugar content!?

I've also come across other information that suggests the only carbs we should include in our diet, if dealing with PCOS, should be fruits and veges? I'm just not sure how strict I should be about particular foods. I never eat any of the obvious junk or sugary foods but I was wondering about things like milo? I also hear its better to drink milo then coffee with PCOS?

Would love to hear anyone's thoughts!

Im new as well,just diagnosd with Pcos last month.im on glucophage for 2weeks nw.2tablets a day,and im havin a real prob reg what and what nt 2 eat..i hope that milo is ok...if sum1 who has experiance could help out..and after how long after takin glucophage is it possible 2 fall preg..

Regarding your question about how fast you can get pregnant on metformin, well I have being doing al ot of reading and most people that it works for seems to see a positive pregnancy test after a month-6months so i guess it depends on the person. I just started metformin yesterday so am keeping my fingers crossed. Good luck!

I've been on Met for about 3.5 months now and we're going to try this cycle for pregnancy -- I'm doing the daily basal temp chart to hopefully find out when I'm ovulating because my cycle is still a bit wacky.

In the 3.5 months on Met. I've lost 10 pounds and 6 inches from my waist (be sure to measure inches and not just pounds because you'll see more improvement there bc working out makes you build muscle which weighs more than fat). For my diet I keep it in the range of 80-100 carbs a day. I allow myself whole grains but not all that refined stuff (at least, not all the time). I'll admit that I give into the cravings for a cookie from time to time, but I make sure to keep self control when indulging and not go overboard.
I drink mostly water but so make sure to get dairy in with either a small glass of milk with breakfast or cheese later in the day. It's all about balance and keep in mind that you'll start out great and might lose some control on the diet from time to time, but don't beat yourself up. Also, everyone's body is different so what works for me won't necessarily work for you.

I would steer clear from anything which is processed and not natural.
Obviously in this day and age that is hard to do totally, so the occasionally milo would be ok but perhaps not everday.. if that is the only sort of bad thing you are having maybe even everday would be fine...
It depends on the rest of your diet.

Remember milo is sugary and processed and not natural... you'd be better with plain light milk I would say.

Yes eating a low carb diet is best for insulin resistance therefore PCOS which is for the most part CAUSEd by insulin resistance in most cases - but you can eat small quantities of for eg basmati rice, sweet potato and pasta - these are all low to medium carbs - and also the fruits and vege.

I have read the book "The New Glucose Revolution - Guide to Living Well With PCOS" and that states that wholegrain bread, low gi rices such as basmati or doongara, and wholegrain pasta are fine to eat everyday. I don't go nuts on those kinds of carbs anyway, but i've just never been a big carb eater. I guess I just wonder how strict I should be - and how strict is too strict??!

I love to train, and for me this is the easy part - I train about 5 hours a week but for me, its not work, its enjoyable. Also I would really really love it if anyone could submit some sample eating plans that they use from day to day - I feel this would be good for all of us to compare notes.

Hi, I did the low gi diet and lost 40 pounds before becoming pregant! I started Metformin at the end of Jan/early Feb last year and was pregant in early May! I'm still down a lot from having my son 4 months ago but I really need to get back on the diet! I don't really have an eating plan....I just got lots of books on the subject and tried what I could. I ate 9 grain bread and pasta all the time. But I very closely observed the veggies, fruits, dairy, protein recommendations in those books.

Thats great to know you had success with going low gi and all while still eating healthy breads and pastas too. I was really hoping someone like you would speak up, as I am trying the same diet. it isnt even really a diet, just a way of eating I guess. It seems so simple and you really don't feel deprived. Of course you cut out all the obvious junk, but I never ate any of that anyway!
