Default Yuckie, disgusting, nasty ...

there are just no words in this world to describe a tcm herbal tea!

So I went to see this tcm practitioner this morning and I have to say that I was really impressed with her! She set up a program of acupuncture, cupping and tcm herbs for me. They have soooo many herbs in the clinic, they weigh them and then put them in little bags, so you can brew the "tea" : at home. I felt like a little whitch *lol* .... the bag I got contained 13 herbs exactly for my current symptoms (I am to go back once a week to have the formula adjusted according to my symptoms, pulse and tongue reading). When I opened it, I thought "okay, I can do that, no problem". So I put those sticks, leaves, and whatever other strange stuff into a pot. It looked bad (like a soup of mud), then it started smelling bad! Okay, I could handle that too! BUT THEN I HAD TO DRINK THAT STUFF! ... Oh my .... I almost died, okay not really, but I seriously thought I was gonna throw up!

I am supposed to drink a second cup now in the pm ... and I have no idea how I'm gonna do that

Is anybody else using tcm herbal teas? I am sure it helps and the woman knows what she is doing, but any advice on how to actually drink this stuff would be oh so appreciated!!!???

What is tcm?

I'm both laughing and horrified at your description of sticks and leaves... The whole thing sounds dreadful!

Can you drink it cold? I can stomach nasty things better if they are ice cold.

tcm = traditional chinese medicine

I was gonna drink the second cup cold as well, but the instructions clearly say to heat it before drinking! I am still trying to figure out how to survive : *lol*

Gotta love those teas!

The are easier to drink luke warm, that way you can gulp versus sip. I would also alternate a mouthful of tea and then a mouthful of water. I did those teas for over two years. Learned some good tricks - in both how to make them and how to drink them. Let me know if I can offer any further guidance - your witches brew will make you feel a ton better!

wow! 2 years! I am impressed!

If you don't mind me asking ... did those teas really help you get your symptoms under control (whatever they were)? I really need to hear a success story to go on drinking that stuff, iykwim?

I managed to drink both cups today ... alternated 3 sips with a bite of a dried fig ... it worked, but at the end of the second cup I almost vomited ... I sure hope that I kind of get used to it .... does it get easier with time?

my brewing instructions are as follows: put herbs into a pot, pour 1 1/2 pt. of cold water over it, let soak for about 15 minutes, bring to the boil, then simmer for 20 - 30 minutes, strain the "tea", leave the herbs in the pot, pour another pint of cold water over it, bring to the boil, then simmer for 20 - 30 minutes it, strain the "tea" into the same cup as the first portion and stir, drink half immediately while still warm, the other half goes into the fridge and needs to be reheated in the evening!

okay, another thing is the smell .... my whole kitchen and part of the house smells like chinatown ... no kidding ... this experience is sure one of a kind *lol*

sorry to double-post ....

dh just came home and the first thing he said was "why is your face so red?" ... I just looked at him like "huh, what are you talking about?" ... sure enough when I went to look into the mirror my face looked like a tomato!

This stuff is doing something ... I just hope it's the right thing and I am not being poisoned here *lol*

I guess she is trying to improve my circulation, as I am always cold! I am anxious to see what comes out of all of this!

I used TCM herbs for 3 mos while I was TTC before doing the hard core fertility drugs. I didn't end up pg but I did ovulate while drinking the teas so I felt like they worked for me.

As far as drinking them (EWWW) I held my nose while drinking- it blunted the taste most of the time. There was one tea though that I always drank over the sink because I wasn't sure it I could actually keep in down/in.

I started to bundle the herbs up in cheese cloth, that way I wasn't having a mess around with straining them.

They did help significantly. I was working on circulation, depression, no menstrual cycles, excessive weight fluctuations, brain fog, amongst other things. I have no desire to get pregnant, so that is not something we worked on, but we did get my cycles back on track and I did ovulate a few times.

I heat the tea to just above lukewarm, and drink it will a glass of water - also lukewarm. Drinking cold water will defeat the purpose. I made a bit of a ritual out of it and really talked to myself about how I was taking a few minutes to myself to focus on my health. I got to the point where most of the time I could tolerate it.

seawen ~ thanks for your reply and sorry about your miscarriage! I conceived dd naturally with the help of prayer, acupuncture, diet, exercise, herbs and soy. That makes me a firm believer in alternative remedies :o)

AlyBlu ~ thanks for telling me about the luke-warm water. I will try it with my next cup. The nasty stuff is brewing right now in my kitchen! Funny thing is I am so excited about all of this *lol*
When the woman felt my pulse yesterday, she asked me if I was under lots of stress lately and if I lost my patience / temper quickly. She was spot on. Impressed me, not to say the least.

My hubby used to laugh when I was brewing up my tea - he said the smell was strong enough to take the paint off the ceiling! Good luck and keep us posted. I know the stuff is nasty - but it can really help!
