Default Zinc Supplements to Restore Reproductive System?

Hi All,

I thought I'd run something by you guys, to see if anyone has tried this. I could almost swear this remedy was what helped bring on ovulation for me. I found this website that described success stories of women who overcame PCOS naturally http://www.ovarian-cysts-pcos.com/PCOS-success.html. The first woman claimed that she ovulated 10 days after starting zinc supplements. So I decided to give it a shot. I had not had a period in 4 months, and I don't think I had ever ovulated before either (now that I know what my real ovulation symptoms are!). So I took 60mg of zinc supplements every night before bedtime. It didn't work as quickly for me but I got sure signs of ovulation after 3 weeks on the zinc supplements. Exactly 14 days after my O signs, I got AF. I should also mention that I followed a low GI diet as well. I'm going to try the same again this month. This time I'm lowering my zinc dosage to 20mg per day (it just seems safer).

Has anyone else found this remedy to be successful?

Kris

Could you tell me more about your strict low GI diet? Like what you eat and when? sample daily menu etc....

also I will go read about the zinc, since 60mg worked, do you think 20 would? Please keep us posted.

thanks

skillet04,

You should read the book "The Glucose Revolution: Guide to living with PCOS" this will answer all your questions regarding how the low GI diet can help control PCOS.

My strict low glycemic index diet consisted only of foods on the low GI list. Completely avoiding the high GI foods. GI foods list: http://www.prevention.com/article/0,...2636-2,00.html

I ate mostly proteins, dairy, and fruits and veggies. And then if I did eat carbs it would be the low GI carbs. A sample daily menu:

Breakfast:
Oatmeal or some eggs

Snack:
Mixed nuts

Lunch:
Meats/cheese on a whole grain wrap
Salad bar

Snack:
Yogurt

Dinner:
Marinated (in olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, vinegar, and some spices) grilled chicken breast
Or some tuna salad
Veggies
And if I'm really starving I add a small portion of whole grain bread or a small portion of whole grain pasta (Barilla is good...can barely taste a difference)

Here are more details on the low GI diet?

Unfortunately I don't think so....or not yet anyway. I'm on Day 41 of my cycle and nothing yet. However, I did get a bit lazy with the vitamins, diet, and exercize since I had been sent to Europe on business. It was tough to keep up with everything while traveling. But now that I am back, I will try to resume my daily regimen. I will wait a little while longer and then up my zinc dosage to 60mg again...just to see what happens. I'll keep you posted.

I started taking Zinc 30-37,5 mg per day on Sunday. I take 2x15mg plus some days I take also multivitamin that has 7,5mg.

I'm around my usual and "normal" ovulation phase in my cycle. Let's see what happens.

Is it okay to take zinc also during the luteal phase (after ovulation)? Or should it be taken only before O?

Interesting Kris and thank you for posting! May I ask you and any other Zinc Girls if you are experiencing any other positive effect on PCOS symptoms other than ovulation and cycle length with the zinc?

MissBehave, I think it's ok to take the zinc throughout the cycle because my womens daily multivitamins contain 10mg of zinc. But then again, I'm not a doctor. It's probably always best to ask your physician. But anyway, good luck!

August, I did notice a decrease in Acne and Dandruff when I started the zinc. But I also started a low GI diet and multivitamins. So I am not positive it was the zinc.

Almond...wow, didn't realize they had a PCOS for dummies book!! That is too funny. I'm going to look for it. Well, I hope the zinc works for you. Keep us posted.
