Default Zoloft making me feel insane?

I was prescribed zoloft when I was pregnant but never took it. Decided to give it a go yesterday as I have been having some depression lately, hoped it would help me snap out of my funk...

I took one pill yesterday AM. Since then I have felt anxious and paranoid and queasy, and I can't stop clenching my jaw. Not at all what I was expecting. Never touching the stuff again!!! Has anyone else experienced this?? How long till it went away? I have taken prozac in the past and had nothing like this.

Have you considered that maybe it's not the Zoloft and it's just you? I'm just kidding, sweetie!

When I was prescribed Zoloft, I was already having physical symptoms that were probably related to stress, since I'd just started a new job. I had the tightening throat and it felt like there was a huge lump in my throat that I couldn't swallow away, and I was shaky and jittery and I bet I didn't sleep for two weeks. After that two week period, the Zoloft kicked in, and I felt much better. But because I was already having the physical problems, it's hard to say whether or not Zoloft contributed.

When I went off Zoloft, I had a lot of withdrawal symptoms--shakiness, dizziness, head spins, headache that wouldn't go away without prescription pain meds.

How come Zoloft? Because they prescribed it during your pregnant and it's safer? It seems to me that when I started Zoloft, it was kinda the antidepressant du jour--replacing Prozac as the one everyone was taking. Now it seems like doctors are more wanting to prescribe Effexor, which is what I now take. Coincidentally, I noticed the move toward Effexor about the same time that Zoloft became available as a generic. Coincidence, or not?

See if it had just been the depression and anxiety and paranoia - I would have thought it was just me. But the jaw clenching was BIZARRE. And nausea. If you have ever taken ecstasy or LSD it was really like the crappy feelings before it gets good - or after, when it's wearing off. I seriously wanted a blow pop to crunch on.

I only took it the one day. It took 3 days for that jaw clenching to go away.

Will not touch it again.

I took Zoloft for a couple months in high school and had almost the exact same response to it.

Massive jaw-clenching, no appetite, and intense paranoia most of the time I took it and especially whenever my Dr. upped my dosage. I know exactly what you mean when you say it felt like that funky, anxious pre-ecstasy feeling, haha.

It was prescribed to me for depression but did nothing to alleviate that or my anxiety.

Hi I am new. I am also on Zoloft and have not had that type of reaction. It did take a couple weeks for me to notice any type of effects. Maybe it is an allergic reaction. Hope you find a med that works for you so you can start feeling better soon .

I have been on zoloft for about 6 or seven years now for anxiety and depression. It does not make an enormous difference for me but I am afraid to go off of it. It is kind of my security blanket. I do know that when you begin taking it that you have to slowly ween it into your system. Also when you go off of it. I don't know if you took the generic or the name brand but when the generic became available I switched to it and got all the same symptoms as you! I felt like I had lock jaw or something and I literally thought that I was going insane overnight. My doctor and pharmacist told me that it was a reaction to the fillers that the manufacturer used in the pills. Maybe ask your doctor if this could have been the reason? You could have been having an allergic reaction to a filler in the pills. It takes quite a while for zoloft to build up in your system and make any noticeable difference in your moods so it seems weird to me that you would have had the symptoms from the "active" ingredient.
Good Luck - Hope you feel better- I remember that feeling and it was awful!!

This happened to me when I took Prozac. After awhile I couldn't stop washing my hands. Not a good feeling. I stopped it and tried another anti-depressant Amitriptyline, but that gave me night terrors.
